Whelk pot,
Beschrijving
This is a basketwork whelk pot, also known as a ‘wilk pot’, which would be baited with fish, either fresh or stale. These baskets were used in Whitstable, Kent, and along the estuaries of the south coast. It is widely flown basket with no bottom and is made of kubu and Palembang cane, with nylon netting across each end. It has a rope handle and two iron weights.
