This is a print from a lithograph of a painting, entitled 'The Rutland Prize Ox', by W. H. Davis, animal painter to the king, in 1834. It was lithgraphed by Davis, and printed by C. Hullmandel. The ox depicted is a Durham breed, and was bred by Robert Smith of Burley, Rutland. It was a prize winner in the 1834 Rutland Agricultrual Show at Oakham. It is one of a collection of paintings and prints thought to date from the last quarter of the 18th century to c.1860.
