This is a spar hook, a thatching tool used for trimming, splitting and pointing the thatching stakes, known as 'spars', which help secure the thatch to the roof. It consists of a wide, gently curving blade and a wooden handle. It is marked 'S. Fry' - possibly either the owner or maker - and was made in the Bridgerule area of Devon.
