MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'These hangers were usually made from a single tubular bar of iron with a point at one end and an S hook at the other. The bar was curved in such a way that when the point was driven into the ground, a cooking utensil could be hung centrally over the fire from the final curve of the hook. // This hanger is 3 feet 11 inches long.
