This toaster, on a trivet stands, was used in front of a hearth for toasting food. The food to be toasted was stuck on the six small spikes. The adjustable plate carrier ensured that, when meat was being cooked on the spikes, dripping fell on to a plate beneath. This toaster was used in Surrey.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This trivet toaster made of wrought iron stands 28 inches high. It consists of a round iron bar standing on three legs. A slide held in place by a friction spring moves up and down the bar. The slide has six spikes, mounted on a circle of metal, on which objects to be toasted can be impaled. The trivet toaster has a plate carrier attached to the bar. The height and position of this plate carrier can also be adjusted. When meat was cooked on the spikes, dripping fell on to a plate beneath.'
