This is a peat cutting knife, originally from Hexworthy, in Devon. It was used to cut peat into blocks 18 inches long, 9 to 12 inches deep and 3 inches thick. Its blade is shaped like a scythe blade, sharpened on one side, being convex in shape and sharply pointed. It is stamped 'HS'.

The blade, which is 19.5 inches long, is like a scythe blade sharpened on one side, the blade being convex in shape and sharply pointed. It is stamped 'HS' and was used to cut turf into blocks 18 inches long, 9 to 12 inches deep and 3 inches thick. It came from Hexworthy, near Princetown.'
