The brake is a basketmaking tool used for stripping the bark from a willow rod. This brake consists of a single rod of iron bent halfway to make two prongs which is set into a wooden post. The brake is set in the ground and the worker stands and pulls the rods one by one through the brake, peeling off. The brake is used throughout willow-growing areas, although the styles vary.
