This is a three-pronged barley fork which has been cut from a young tree and had a third wooden tine nailed on. It is stamped 'GB' on the back. It would have been used either to collect mown barley into sheaves in the harvest field, or to stir up sprouting grain in the malt house. It was found in the barn at Woodley Farm in Woodley, Berkshire.

MERL miscellaneous note, Greta Bertram, 22 August 2013 – Woodley Farm was in the possession of the Pither Family from the mid-nineteenth century until January 1982. The contents of the farm were sold at public auction on 16 April 1982., MERL 'Handwritten accession' form (Institute of Agricultural History) – ‘Description: wooden barley fork which has been cut from a young tree and had a third wooden tine nailed on.
