This hop hook was used in Dallington in Sussex. It was used for cutting the bine of the plants from the poles when the hops were ready for picking. The bine was hacked down to the ground and the hops were then pulled off. The point at the side of the blade was used to unhitch the string from the top of the poles (string was tied between the poles before the use of wire). The blade is stamped with the maker's name which is illegible and two trade marks of crossed axes.
