The origin of this oblong elm box, which might be a bible box, is unknown. It is decorated with iron and brass studs, and has 'A.K. 1736' written in brass studs on the lid, and has an iron lock on the front.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'The origin of this box is unknown, but on the lid the letters A.K. 1736 are raised in brass studs. // It is rectangular in shape and made of elm wood. It is ornamented with iron studs round the edges of the lid, and in the middle of the lid with brass studs. The lock on the front of the box is of iron; the hinges are missing, and have been replaced by pieces of wire. // It measures 18.5 inches in length, 10 inches in width and is 4.75 inches in height.', No Lavinia Smith No. recorded.
