Bates Esqr. of Kirkleavington near Yarm, Yorkshire. (Age 3 years & 8 months. Live weight 180 stone of 14lbs). This superb animal won the head prize of 30 sovereigns given at the English Agricultural Societies meeting held at Oxford July 17th. 1839 (for the best short horned bull open to all England) also the highest prize for the best 2 year old bull at York August 29th 1838. Premiums were likewise awarded to him as the best bull of any age at the Stockton & Cleveland meeting in Septr. & at Darlington in Octr. 1838- having only been exhibited on these four occasions.
