After two years working with local press he began working as a freelance photographer full time. During this period Adams worked for various agricultural magazines and organisations including Big Farm Weekly, Farmer's Weekly, National Farmers' Union and the Meat and Livestock Commission. In 1982, weekly newspaper Farming News began and Peter Adams was asked to work on the pilot issue to be launched in January 1983. Accepting the job he went on to work for them for the next ten years. Farming News dealt with current issues facing the farming community as well as reporting on agricultural shows and fairs such as the Royal Agircultural Sociey of England's annual Royal Show. During his time with the newspaper he won the Guild of Agricultural Journalists' photography competition.
