This is a wheelwright’s pattern used to make the felloes (rim sections) of a wheel, and showing the exact curve needed. This pattern is made of wood and inscribed with the words 'From W W Field Winson Cirencester // 12 Felloes to this pattern // 2 3/4" or 2 1/2" sq'. The pattern came from the workshop of Mr W. W. Field, a wheelwright in Winson, Gloucestershire. Mr Field retired circa 1960 and the business closed.
