[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
This is a nine-pronged fish spear in a leather case. Each prong ends in a barb. It was originally identified as a pike spear but has since been deemed too small for this purpose and is more likely to be a flounder spear.

[nb-NO]Archival history[nb-NO]
MERL ‘Associated information’ form – ‘Said to be pike spear by Curator of Gloucester Museum. This is doubtful as it is far too small for spearing pike in salmon or trout hatcheries. It is I believe (JGJ) a flounder spear (See No 41 in Severn Fisheries guide Temp Exhibition MERL 1956).’
