Timber wedges are used for cutting down large trees. This heavy iron wedge would be knocked into the cut made by a saw to support the weight of the tree and stop the saw catching, or to change the direction in which the tree falls. This timber wedge was used on Witheridge Farm in Hailey, Oxfordshire.
