This is a clucket sheep bell made from sheet iron and laxquered with brass. It was hung from the sheep's neck by leather straps slotted into a wooden yoke and held in place by wooden lockyers. Bells were used by shepherds to help them locate their sheep.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'Clucket or ‘cluck’ bells are made of sheet iron, sometimes lacquered with brass to improve the note. They are usually lighter than canister bells and have rounded crowns. // This bell is lacquered, has straight sloping sides and two staples on the crown. It is 5.5 inches high, and 6 inches across the crown. // The bell was hung from the neck of the sheep by a wooden yoke and leather straps; the straps being slotted through the yoke and held in place by wooden lockyers.', Lavinia Smith Catalogue (D60/28) - 'A list of the contents of the East Hendred museum.
