This is a medium size metal churn with two side handles. The lid is set into the rim and has a raised central portion with holes for ventilation. There is an outlet near the base with a bung. There is also the inscription: 'Copper Shield // H. M. THOMAS // ASHCROFT FARM // CAVERSHAM 1909', and also on the lid, 'JOHN SHACKLE FORTH // READING, LONDON STREET // MANUFACTURER'. This churn is of a type probably used for delivery of milk from a cart to households.
