This is a pit saw set in a wooden frame with a wooden handle at each end. Pit saws were two-people saws used for cutting tree trunks into manageable timber. This pit saw was used at R. Middleton & Sons' wheelwrights shop in Eddington, Hungerford. The supporting bar is made of softwood.
