This is a strickle that is made of horn with a wooden base and lid. The lid is attached by a leather thong. Also the strickle contains a dried up piece of tallow. It is also has an inscription on it; ‘J E 1864’, which may refer to its date of production. The tallow contained in the horn was spread on a piece of wood which was dipped into the silver sand and used to sharpen scythes. The object was used by the donor's grandfather at Tower Hill, near Llanybydder, Carmarthenshire.
