This rattle type bird scarer was used for scaring birds on Sutton Seeds Ltd.'s trial grounds on London Road in Reading, Berkshire, in the 1920s. It is stamped 'J.T.E. 191[8]'.

MERL Miscellaneous note (71/132–73/134) – ‘The items were salvaged from the scrap heap by Mr Walton & brought to the Museum. He is a driver for Suttons Seeds Ltd. who are leaving Reading & re-establishing at Torquay. The items were all used at the firm’s trial grounds on the London Road, probably c. 1920s. Mr Walton has no personal connection with them.’
