A router plane with a wooden stock and steel blade, used to clean the bottom of wide grooves. The blade is marked with the name of the manufacturer, 'Spear & Jackson', and the stock is marked 'W. Newton' in six places. The plane is part of a set of cabinet maker's tools, many of which are marked 'W. Newton', suggesting this may have been the name of the cabinet maker from whom the donor acquired the set.
