A socketed gouge with a steel blade and a wooden handle with a steel ring at the end for strength. A gouge is similar to a chisel but the blade has a hollow cross section and is for cutting curved surfaces. This gouge is 'in-cannelled', with the grinding bevel on the inside. The blade is stamped 'W. Gilpin'.
