MERL ‘History Artefacts’ card – ‘Description: Planter – a cylindrical ring with a flat, rect. sect. [rectangular section]. Shaft at the back, joining straight foot-bar projecting out its either side. Ending in long ‘wrap around’ socket with narrow opening down the back. All in one piece. Iron. // Handle – wooden round sect. [section] shaft attached in socket with three nails. Mortised into T bar across the top, also wood & shaped for grips. Reinforced with a flat metal plate passing over the top and nailed to the shaft an either side with four nails.’
