A knobbing iron is a pair of metal tongs with hollowed out ends used for fixing brass knobs to the ends of the horns of cattle. Lavinia Smith acquired it from Arthur Harrison, a blacksmith from East Hendred, Oxfordshire (formerly in Berkshire).
