This is a pole shave, or rounder plane, used to round, shave or smooth out poles such as rake handles and wheel spokes. It has an unpolished ash stock with straight handles and a steel blade marked 'Tho Ibbotson & Co // Warranted Cast Steel'. The shave belonged to Mr W. W. Field, a wheelwright in Winson, Gloucestershire. Mr Field retired circa 1960 and the business closed.
