A rebate plane is used for cutting a rebate, or step, along the edge of a piece of wood. This rebate plane belonged to Mr W. W. Field, a wheelwright in Winson, Gloucestershire. Mr Field retired circa 1960 and the business closed. The end of this plane is inscribed ‘Edwards Bays & Rye // New Swindon'.
