This conical milk churn is made of tinned steel, with the upper half covered with brass. It has an outlet pipe at the base, two hinged handles halfway up the sides, and an inner lid and outer domed lid. It also has a plate engraved with ‘F. Jarvis Hyrons Farm Dairy’ and a design of leaves. The churn was used for the transport and storage of milk for sale, and was probably carried on a milk float. It was displayed at the British Food Fair of 1958 at Olympia, London.

1 churn: tinned steel and brassA large decorative churn made from tinned steel with the top half of the body covered with brass. It has a strong rim at the base and brass handles. It has an inner lid made of tinned metal with an upturned lip and handle. The outer domed lid also made of tinned metal has a brass cone on top with aeration holes. The lid fixes onto a pin on the churn and there is another pin possibly used for locking the churn. The name of the owner is engraved in a decorative manner on the brassed top half with a design of leaves. It reads 'F. Jarvis, Hyrons Farm Dairy'. There is an outlet pipe at the base which has a tap fixed to it.
