This tinderbox was found in a bricked up chimney when a cottage in Mortimer West End, Hampshire, was modernised about 1900. The box is round, with a handle at the side. It contains flint, steel and tinder, and there is a damper but no lid.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This tinder box was found in a bricket up chimney when a cottage in Mortimer was modernised about 1900 by Edwin Merrick, a builder. The box is round measuring 4 inches in diameter and 1 1/4 inches in height. It has a handle at the side. The box contains flint, steel and tinder. There is a damper but no lid.'
