This is an adjustable metal hanger using a ratchet mechanism. Ratchet hangers were used to suspend pots and other kitchen equipment over a fire. The ratchet mechanism enable the user to adjust the height of the pot over the fire. The museum holds little information about the origins or place of use of this ratchet hanger.
