This horse's bit is probably a snaffle bit. It consists of a single curved metal bar, which appears to be chromium plated, with long pieces of metal slotted through the ends and each with a metal ring. The Museum bought the bit at Reading Cattle Market for 1 shilling.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This bit consists of a single curved metal bar measuring 6 inches in length. Long pieces of metal measuring 6¾ inches are slotted through the ends of the bar. A metal ring of diameter 2¼ inches projects from each piece of metal. The bit was purchased from Reading Cattle Market for 1/– and is a probably a snaffle bit. It appears to be chromium plated.'
