[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
This snuffer dates from the late 18th century. It is made of plated steel, and consists of a rectangular box fitted to one blade, the other ending in a flat piece of metal, which carried the cut wick into the box and extinguished it. A spike for uncurling the wick before cutting projects in front of the box. It was formerly part of the collections at the Victoria & Albert Museum, but nothing is known of its origins before that.
