This is a compass plane, with a slightly convex sole, used for smoothing curved surfaces. The cutting edge is at an angle of 50° and is 2 inches wide. The plane itself is made of beech wood. It was used by a wheelwright in Braishfield, Hampshire; the plane is stamped 'H. J. Bown' at both ends.
