Judging from its size, this leather collar was probably for a sheepdog. It has a large buckle at one end and a copper plate pricked with the name 'J. Andrews'. Lavinia Smith acquired it from James Andrews, a shepherd of East Hendred, Oxfordshire (formerly in Berkshire).

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This collar came from James Andrews, a shepherd of East Hendred (Berks). He was still living in the village in 1940. // It is a large leather collar, 1 inch wide and 19 inches in circumference, with a large buckle at one end. On it is a slotted copper plate 5 by 1.75 inches, with the name J. Andrews pricked on it. The collar is a suitable size for a sheep dog.', No Lavinia Smith No. recorded.
