This armband was owned by Gwendoline Hayes (née Newell), who was part of the Women’s Land Army (WLA) between November 1941 and March 1946. She later became chairman of Berkshire Women’s Land Army Association, which aimed to keep in touch with and support other volunteers and to maintain camaraderie. This club closed in October 1974 due to ‘lack of support from members’ but reunion events continued in later years., See associated documents for further details (archive numbers pending). Objects 2011/43-50 and 2022/20-21 are also associated with Gwen Hayes.
