This carcass hanger is a wooden yoke for hanging slaughtered pigs. It was used on the farm at Sackers Green, Suffolk. In Suffolk, pig hangers were also called 'gambrels' or 'buckers'. The rounded ends of this hanger each have three ridges, which accommodated different sizes of pig. There is a round notch on the underside of the middle of the yoke where it rested on a cross bar or beam of the ceiling.
