This shell auger, a tool used for boring holes into woodwork, was used by a wheelwright in Braishfield, Hampshire. It has an iron shaft with a square section and semi-circular bit, and a wooden 'T'-shaped handle. The bottom part of the auger bores the hole, whilst the upper section holds and removes the wooden shavings.
