This is a model of a milking parlour with a pipeline connected to a canning unit. The introductory panel explains the model: 'In-can cooling model (scale 1"=1') showing tandem parlour with series in-can pipeline milking and circulation equipment (incorporating N.I.R.D. [National Institute for Research into Dairying] system for hot water sterilization)'. The scale is 1 inch to 1 foot. The model has many information panels explaining the pieces of equipment including vacuum pump, delivery line, heater and cooling unit. The model has a wooden case stamped 'IN CAN DAIRY MODEL 1' and on the reverse 'THE EDA // 2 SAVOY HILL // LONDON WC2'. The model was made by Edwin G. Crook for the East Midlands Electricity Board. It was acquired for display at Elvaston Castle Working Farm Museum in the 1980s. It is one of two models (2018/20-2018/21) which may have originally been made for demonstrating new technology to farmers.
