[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
This watering can was donated to MERL by James Harvey Sutton, who acquired it, along with a large ditching or rutting spade, from Erleigh Hill House, the former residence of Philip Sutton of Sutton Seeds, circa early 1960s, before the House was demolished. James Sutton had just joined his father in business in Reading after studying at RHS Garden Wisley in Woking, Surrey. He later became a member of staff at the University of Reading at the research station in Shinfield. The watering can was found in the area now occupied by Bridge Hall and Wessex Hall on the Whiteknights campus of the University of Reading.
