This coffin plate originally came from Sutton Cheney, Leicestershire. It depicts mourning figures on either side of a central shield, above which the words 'GLORIA DEO' are inscribed. It dates from the late 19th century.

Letter, T. D. Clarke to J. Higgs, 9th July, 1956 - 'We have recently had from Sutton Cheney two embossed iron plates about 18" long from a coffin or similar fittings. They are identical and depict mourning figures on either side of a shield, date late 19th century. Are they of any interest to you?'
