Letter, Donor to MERL, 11 January 1989 – 'Here are the trousers I promised. Please accept them without obligation to acknowledge item or even to keep them if they are of no use to you. If so let a jumble sale have them. However as one interested in the countryside and in clothes I am positive that they are authentic in that they are at least 50 years old - probably more - and are what small farmers did wear in the first two of three decades of the C20. They were discovered by me, in use as rags, in a garage in Brushford, a hamlet near Winkleigh in mid-Devon in about 1978.', MERL 'Handwritten accession' form (Institute of Agricultural History) – 'Standard museum name: Trousers // Accession number: 89/1 // Classification: Personal Clothing garment // Negative number: 60/15869 // Acquisition method: gift // Acquired from, date: ..January 1989 // Store: small object // Condition: well worn // Recorder, date: JMB 14.4.89 // Description: Light grey (faded) corduroy trousers withhigh back.
