[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
This Welsh wholecloth quilted bedcover is made of a white cotton which has a printed design of flowers and leaves in a dark pink-red with an interlining of Welsh flannel of blanket weight with a calico backing. The quilt was made circa 1900 by the two daughters of a farmer who had a small mixed farm called Penfidi, near Llangyfelach, three and a half miles north of Swansea, Wales. One of the daughters was the donor's mother, and the quilt was used in the family until shortly before donation. The quilt was made on a wooden frame kept in the best room, and the stitching was done little by little. It was traditional for each girl to put one in a bottom drawer until her marriage.
