[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
This hand-made clay pipe was used in a subsoil drainage system on farmland at Whittington, near Oswestry, Shropshire. The tile was dug up from a depth of about 3 feet when the field was being re-drained in the early 1950s. It was probably made on the site at which it was laid, and the maker's tumb marks can still be seen on its surface.
