This is a spar hook, a thatching tool used for trimming, splitting and pointing the thatching stakes, known as 'spars', which help secure the thatch to the roof. It consists of a billhook-shaped steel blade with a curved tip and a wooden handle. The blade is stamped 'W. Sully'. The hook belonged to a thatcher on the Dorset-Wiltshire border.
