Twenty thatching hooks, also known as thatching nails, used in conjunction with hazel ‘sways’ (rods) to fix the thatch to the rafters. Sixteen are traditional hand-forged iron hooks, seven of which are square, seven round and two flattened. Four are modern steel hooks with round cross-sections, manufactured in Winchester. The donor found the hooks in various thatched roofs around Hampshire and Dorset.
