[nb-NO]Description[nb-NO]
This cow bell and buckle was obtained by the donor from a farm in Wilcote, Oxfordshire. Bells of this kind were used on the farm in the late 19th century. This bell was made in France, by Simond of Chamonix; it is stamped with the trade marks of the manufacturer and the inscriptions 'Simond Chamonix', '1' and '1 E QTE' (which probably refer to the size of the bell). It is of a type widely used on cattle in the mountain pastures of the French Alps. It is stated in the accession file that this bell was likely made before 1890.
