This is a tobacco jar from 343 Oxford Road, which was previously a tobacconist, probably dating from the early 20th century. It is a stoneware jar painted bright red including lid. There is an inscription in the form of a Silver circle with womans's face in centre.

MERL ‘Handwritten Accession’ form - ‘JAR (Tobacco) // TRADES and PROFESSIONS- Tobacconists // Mr Belchen, 343 Oxford Road, Reading // Found in a tobacconist/ sweet shop at above address- probably there since turn of century. Stoneware- painted bright red including lid. Inscription in the form of a Silver circle with womans's face in centre.’
