These two pieces are sections of a mower knife. They were used in Ceredigion, Wales, and were acquired by the donor after a blacksmith persuaded the farmer to replace the two parts in the knife.

Massingbird-Mundy to MERL, 22 July 1962 - 'I was cleaning out my desk the other day and came across these two sections of a mower knife which I had meant to send earlier. I got them in Wales from a blacksmith who had at last persuaded the farmer to put some new sections into his knife. // ... They do for me however exemplify they attitude of mind of the Cardiganshire farmer...'
