This is a glazed stonewar jar used for storing cream for sale. The jar has a blue shield drawn on the side with the words 'CARRICKS CUMBERLAND // DAIRY Co Ld // PURE // THICK CREAM // FRESH DAILY // LOW ROW // NR CARLISLE'. It was used for packing cream for sale. The top was sealed with a parchment cover tied with string and the jars were packed in wooden boxes for transport. This jar was found in a beck by the donor's family.

MERL ‘History Artefacts’ card – 'Description: A cream glazed stoneware jar which widens out from the base and curves in to a narrow nech with a lip at the top. A blue shield is drawn on the side and within this is written: CARRICKS CUMBERLAND DAIRY CO LTD PURE THICK CREAM FRESH DAILY LOW BOW NR. CARLISLE. There is also a picture of a cow. / /Use: These jars were used for packing cream for sale. The top was sealed with a parchment cover tied with string and the jars were packed in wooden boxes for transport. // History: This jar was found in a beck by the donor's family.'
