A bronze plaque with white lettering in a decorative frame in honour of Robert Stenhouse Williams, the first director of the National Institute for Research in Dairying (N.I.R.D.) 1912–1932. It was made by Allen & Greaves Ltd and dates from the 1930s. The plaque originally hung in the N.I.R.D. Library at Shinfield, Reading.

1 plaque: all bronze; good conditionEngraved wording reads: 'This library is a grateful tribute from friends in all parts of the world to the memory of Robert Stenhouse Williams, M. B. D. Sc., first director of the National Institute for Research in Dairying and Research Professor of Bacteriology in the University of Reading who died on 2nd February 1932, and who for twenty years from its foundation in 1912 inspired and directed the work of the Institute. "He had the gift of winning friends and of earning the affection of fellow-workers. He held fast to his purpose through difficulties that persisted for years and must have daunted a man of less heart. The Institute is his monument".
