Descrizione
A heavy hammer used in stoneworking to split and break stone to the required size. It has a square face and a long flat spike at the back, the end of which may have been made from an old rasp. It is part of a collection of woodworking and stoneworking tools given to the Museum by Mr Stamp.

MERL 'Handwritten accession' form (Museum of English Rural Life) – 'Description: Heavy hammer with a square face and long flat spike at the back. The end may have been made from an old rasp. The relatively short wooden handle is fitted through the head of the hammer and has been flattened at the end where it has been struck. // Dimensions: Length: 24.5 cm Length of head: 24.5 cm // Associated information: This group of tools [98/60–98/67] were also in the collection given by Mr Stamp. They have been accessioned under CRAFTS Stone but no special information was given at the time about their use.’
